Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist (8/12/10)

We are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to support our operations throughout the Western United States. The Safety Specialist will plan, direct, and implement organization safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement the company's EH&S policies in accordance with OSHA, federal, state and local regulations.
  • Maintain and update the company Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) and adheres to plan specifications and requirements.
  • Investigate work related incidents, near misses, and accidents to minimize recurrence and ensure the proper preparation of related documentation and reports.
  • Performs field and safety measurements, safety evaluations, and hazardous waste inspections.
  • Provide input to hazardous material communications, including maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Develop, facilitate and conduct safety training for workers on issues related to environmental, health and safety according to applicable Federal, State, local laws and company policy.
  • Tour job sites to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities; to identify and correct potential hazards; and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Determine requirements for safety clothing and devices, and designs, builds, and installs, or directs installation of, safety devices on machinery.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries.
  • Maintains safety files and records.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in environmental health, safety, occupational health or a closely related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Skilled in use of Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Drilling industry experience desired (O&G or Geothermal).

The HSE Coordinator is a support role within our organization reporting directly to the client HSE Management Group and also to the local PSN HSE Manager. This position will be based in Bakersfield, California and will require a strong commitment to safety and customer focus to our clients.
