Presentation by Jeff Duff, President/COO

Jeff is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Airstreams Renewables, Inc. Jeff has over 9 years experience in the wind industry in areas including consulting, asset management, and system performance analysis. Jeff has also been a mathematics instructor for California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, Cuesta Community College, and University of Phoenix. Jeff s experience has extended to numerous areas of wind power which included:

  • System Performance Manager with GE Wind responsible for monthly technical reviews, RCA support and analysis, operations and service reporting, customer relations for over 1700 MW of wind turbines
  • Technical Analyst with Zond/Enron Wind responsible for wind and turbine analysis, engineering support for a growing fleet of hundreds of owned and operated turbines throughout the world
  • Jeff has an MS in Mathematics (with a specialization in teaching) and BA in Mathematics and Economics (International Trade)
  • Jeff is a member of the AWEA Education Working Group.

Frank Malquist, CSP has been involved in the safety profession for over 20 years. He has investigated several hundred accidents including personal injuries, motor vehicle accidents and property loss and damage. As a member of ASSE since 1994, he was instrumental in getting the South Valley Sectino and the Bakersfield Chapter established. He achieved the status of Certified Safety Professional (CSP) in 1995.

Rudy Avila, SunWorld International, LLC
Rudy Avila has 29 years of experience in employee relations, safety, worker’ compensation and environmental issues. He is currently responsible for human relations, safety, workers’ compensation, training, and environment for both the Bakersfield and Coachella operations. He is a certified instructor for first aid and CPR, a certified and licensed instructor for All Terrain Vechicles (ATVs). He is also the Vice President of Membership for the Golden Empire Safety Society in Kern County and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Daniel M. Gallegos, Sunview Vineyards of California, Inc.
Mr. Gallegos is the Director of Human Resources with Sunview Vineyards of California, Inc. and related entities and presently oversees human resource activities for companies involved in winery operations, food processing and product storage operations, vineyard and tree fruit farming operations, nursery operations, and sales/marketing. He is a senior manager responsible for directing payroll, labor relations, compensation, benefits, safety, human resources information systems, and organizational development strategies. Mr. Gallegos has over 27 years of experience in human resource management in manufacturing and agricultural operations. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, the Kern County SHRM Chapter APMA, and was a charter member in the Employment Management Association of Southern California. He has been a featured presenter on various HR related topics to businesses, government agencies and industry associations. Mr. Gallegos received his Bachelors degree from CSU, Fresno and a Masters of Business Administration degree from CSU, Bakersfield.

William J. Krycia, Cal/OSHA Enforcement
Mr. Krycia is the regional manager for the Department of Industrial Relations – Cal/OSHA Compliance, Region II, which covers the Central Valley from the Oregon border down to Edwards Air Force Base. Mr. Krycia has been with the Department of Industrial Relations – Division of Occupational Safety Health for more than 28 years. In addition to his regional manager duties, he is involved with special projects within Cal/OSHA on heat related illness, blood borne pathogens, tuberculosis, hantavirus, SARS, occupationally acquired methicillin resistant staphyloccus aureus, and indoor air quality. Mr. Krycia is also the External Advisory Board Chairperson for the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety located at the University of California, Davis. WCAHS is a NIOSH funded regional center conducting research and outreach on agricultural occupational safety and health. Mr. Krycia has a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is also a certified industrial hygienist.

Michael C. Saqui, The Saqui Law Group
Mr. Saqui is the managing shareholder of The Saqui Law Group. He has successful experience in all aspects of employer-employee relations, including union organizing campaigns, union elections, boycotts and corporate campaigns, defending unfair labor practice charges, collective bargaining, grievance arbitrations, strike defense and contingency planning. With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Saqui has
fought and prevailed against many of the biggest and most well- financed labor organizations in the U.S. He also handles advocacy and defense in sexual harassment, wrongful termination and complex wage and hour cases in State & Federal Courts, as well as before the myriad State & Federal enforcement agencies. Mr. Saqui provides the firm's clients with expertise and assistance in employment matters by drafting and implementing employment policies and procedures, providing advice to employers on terminations and discipline, responding to harassment and complaints of discrimination, protection of trade secrets and compliance with the myriad of laws that affect employers. Currently, Mr. Saqui is a member of the American Bar Association (labor and employment law section), the American Bar Association Sub-Committee on State Agricultural Labor Law Developments for California and Arizona, the California State Bar Association (labor and employment law section), the California League of Food Processors, Regional Commerce and Trade Organizations, the National Council of Agricultural Employers, and is a past President of AgSafe - the largest Coalition for Health and Safety for farm workers in the Western U.S.

Joel Sherman, Grimmway Farms
Joel Sherman is the Director of Safety, Workers’ Compensation and Regulatory Compliance for Grimmway Farms, a large vegetable grower/packer/shipper based in Kern County, California. Mr. Sherman oversees three departments responsible for the safety and workers’ compensation issues for more than 7,500 employees and laborers. A graduate of California State University, Bakersfield, Joel has more than 30 years experience in the safety and workers’ compensation field. He has served in a variety of capacities including claims adjuster, loss control consultant, policy services representative, and as the workers’ compensation liaison for a large industrial medicine practice. A certified self-insurance administrator, Joel presently teaches Introduction to Workers’ Compensation at CSUB, and was also certified by the state as a continuing education provider for Qualified Medical Evaluators, he is in the second year term as Chairman of the board of directors of the California Coalition on Workers’ Compensation (CCWC) and was actively involved in the comp reforms of 2004. Joel has been a presenter and acted as panel moderator at numerous business and education seminars.

Presentation by John C. Duncan, Director of the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR)

Duncan has had a distinguished career in both state and federal service including an appointment as special assistant to former U.S. Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger. He assisted the Secretary in writing "Fighting for Peace," an autobiographical account of the Secretary’s years at the Pentagon. In 1987, he received the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Public Service.

His current state government appointment - by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on August 9, 2007 - follows previous service to DIR that included chief deputy director and then DIR director from 1995 to 1999. From 1991, he was DIR deputy director of communications.

During his first DIR tenure, he was the principal advisor to Governor Pete Wilson on labor and employment issues and was a member of his Cabinet.

As DIR Director, Duncan oversees a department with 2,700 employees and a $382 million budget. He also serves as the administrator of apprenticeship and as an ex-officio member of the State Compensation Insurance Fund Board of Directors.

Prior to his current appointment, he was Chair of the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) from March 2004 and was a member of Governor Schwarzenegger’s transition team where he was charged with handling issues and personnel for the Labor and Workforce Development Agency.

Duncan has also had significant private sector experience in labor and regulatory matters. He was president of Duncan Consulting, Inc. where he designed communications strategy for corporate, legal and governmental clients and specialized in navigating labor-related regulatory issues. He was also president and COO of Magnitude Information Systems, a company specializing in software and internet solutions for preventing workplace injuries, for several years.

As part of his federal service, Duncan was an assistant to the secretary at the U.S. Department of Defense and special assistant to the deputy assistant secretary of defense for International Security Affairs, East Asia and Pacific Affairs.

He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor's degree in history and of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government with a master's in public administration.

Duncan is a board member of the Yosemite National Institute and California Conservation Corps Foundation, a former president of the Industrial Relations Association of Northern California, and a former chair of the California Employment Training Panel.

Presentation by Steve Beaman, Key Energy

This isn’t PowerPoint for dummies but attend this presentation and get practical tips for inserting pictures, sounds & music, symbols (logos, arrows, circles, boxes, etc) and video hyperlinks. Steve will be demonstrating using PowerPoint 2007, but will give insights about using PowerPoint 2002 as well.

Steve is the STOP Facilitator (the Behavior Based Safety Process) for Key Energy. In that role he serves as a critical technical resource and has had a key role in developing many of the computer enhanced presentation systems used by their BBSM and other processes. Steve is a 3rd (family) generation oil professional.

Gary Chambers, BS from Indiana University, Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Gary has been in the Safety and Loss Control field since 1991 working in safety for crude oil transportation, insurance, and construction businesses.

A member of ASSE since 1998, serving on the board of the Bakersfield Chapter of ASSE for several years, by holding the position of Vice President (now the president elect), Awards an Honors, and currently serves as the Program Chairperson. He also serves on the Central Valley Builders Exchange Safety Council.

Presentation by Chuck A. Leiker

Excavations can be a deadly work environment. We have heard of employees being caught in a trench collapse. Some are seriously injured or killed. Every employer should be aware of what steps need to be taken to protect their workers or sub contractors. Chuck will bring his experience to help guide you to safe work practices in excavations.

  • Sixteen years in the construction field, placing underground conduit, manholes, and vaults for Telephone and Power Companies
  • Nine years in the business of renting Underground Shoring Equipment
  • Eight years as an instructor of Excavation Awareness Classes for the Southern California area

My career in the Underground Construction business spans over twenty five years in various capacities from Laborer to Branch Manager. I literally started from the shovel up, as a Laborer for five years, and then Foreman for eleven years in the Dry Utility Pipeline business. My next career move was to the Rental Shoring Equipment business as a Sales Representative and Manager. I am currently a Sales Representative for Central Valley Shoring and teach the Excavation Standard to contractors throughout California.

The Future of Workers' Compensation: Post-Arnold
Jason Schmelzer, California Coalition on Workers' Compensation

Jason Schmelzer joined the California Coalition on Workers’ Compensation team in 2009 and currently leads the coalition’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts. Prior to joining CCWC he served as a lobbyist for nearly 5 years, most recently for the California Chamber of Commerce.

His primary responsibilities at the California Chamber of Commerce included directing legislative advocacy for their over 15,000 member companies on issues such as transportation, air quality, chemicals policy, workers’ compensation, and other lines of insurance. During his time at the CalChamber, Mr. Schmelzer led legislative advocacy efforts for the private sector employer community on workers’ compensation. Mr. Schmelzer also served as a member of the California Coalition on Workers’ Compensation Board of Directors from 2006 until 2009 before agreeing to lead the coalition’s advocacy efforts.

Mr. Schmelzer served as a leader in the business community on these issues by regularly providing in-depth committee testimony on legislation, building coalitions to support and oppose legislation and regulatory initiatives, and his frequent appearance as a speaker during legislative informational hearings.

Prior to his work at the California Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Schmelzer served as Legislative Director for the California Manufacturers and Technology Association. He served as the association’s voice in the legislature, governor’s office, and administrative agencies on issues including workers’ compensation insurance, human resources and healthcare.

Prior to his experience in the legislative realm, Mr. Schmelzer spent 5 years administering workers’ compensation claims for both public and private sector entities. This experience gives him a unique perspective on the human resources and insurance issues that face public and private entities.

Mr. Schmelzer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from California State University, Sacramento.

Everything You Wanted to Ask a Pharmacist About Drugs But Were Afraid to Ask
Presentation by Lawrence R. Borgsdorf, Pharm.D., FCSHP

Dr. Borgsdorf received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the School of Pharmacy, University of California – San Francisco. He completed his residency training at the University of California Hospitals – San Francisco.

Dr. Borgsdorf is currently an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Bakersfield (Kern County Service Area). His primary responsibilities include the operation of the RX INSIGHTS PROGRAM, a referral-based service for Kaiser Permanente members who are experiencing difficulties with their medications and works closely with the medical staff to identify and resolve medication-related problems; in addition he operates the Medication Therapy Management Program, a Medicare required pharmacy-based service to manage the medication needs of Medicare patients determined to be at risk from either the cost of their medications or as a result of their complex medical conditions and complex medication regimens. He is a member of the Kaiser Permanente Geriatrics Assessment team and also provides coverage for the Anticoagulation Service and the Focused Care Management Service (a service focusing on the medication/medical care needs of recently discharged patients with complex medical problems/medication regimens).

He is responsible for supervising Pharmacy Practice Residents as well as Senior Pharmacy students from the USC School of Pharmacy and, soon, the Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy.

His current faculty appointments include: Professor of Clinical Sciences and Associate Professor of Nursing at California State University-Bakersfield; Adjunct Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at Pacific School of Pharmacy; and Associate Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr. Borgsdorf has published over 30 articles and made more than 350 major presentations during his career. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Facts and Comparisons; and a member of the Editorial Advisory Panel for Drug Interaction Facts.

He is an active volunteer for the American Lung Association (currently a member of the Leadership Council in Kern County and actively involved in the Kern County Better Breathers support group), Lupus Society, Epilepsy Society, and Alzheimer’s Disease Association chapters in Kern County and is a frequently requested guest speaker for community service groups.

He is actively involved in local, state and national pharmacy organizations and has received numerous awards and recognitions including: 1994 Pharmacist of the Year by the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists; 1994 Employee of the Year by the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Kern County; honorary Kern County Paramedic; and honorary member of the Kern County Dental Hygienist’s Association.

Terry’s Treasure Chest: A Motivational and Inspirational Safety Presentation
Presentation by Terry Hughes, Safety Professional – Aera Energy, LLC

Late one afternoon in July, 1949, Terry Hughes arrived in a little hospital in Bakersfield, CA. He was only there two days before he was taken to his home in Wasco, CA. He has lived in this rural town and still resides in Wasco with Evelyn, his wife of 38 years.

Terry was educated by the local school system and attended Bakersfield Jr. College graduating with an Associated of Arts Degree. He worked several local jobs before landing an opportunity to work in the oilfields.

He worked several operation assignments before landing the job that greatly impacted his life. With 36 years in the oilfields, he has devoted approximately 25 of these years to the safety of his fellow co-worker. Helping others work safely and go home each day became his passion.

In these 25 years, he has filled the role of Health and Safety Specialist, Safety Trainer and presently his work assignment is an Internal Consultant for Behavior Based Safety.

The Grossman Burn Center Difference: Safety First
Presentation by Dr. A. Richard Grossman, Grossman Burn Center

Dr. A. Richard Grossman, founder and medical director of the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital and Health Center, is a nationally recognized plastic surgeon considered by many to be the nation's foremost expert in the treatment of burns and burn reconstructive surgery. A graduate of Emory University and the University of Tennessee Medical School, Dr. Grossman completed his post-graduate training at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is board-certified in general surgery and plastic surgery and has practiced plastic and reconstructive surgery in Los Angeles for more than thirty years.

It was while serving as physician-in-charge of Cook County Hospital's emergency room, that Dr. Grossman found the motivation that caused him to dedicate his efforts to the care of people who had been burned: He needed to triage and treat many of the 93 children who were badly burned in a tragic parochial school fire. From this experience Dr. Grossman emerged as a physician with a mission to alleviate the horrible suffering and physical damage of burn injuries.

In 1969, Dr. Grossman first began treating burn patients in the emergency room of what was then called Sherman Oaks Community Hospital. Today the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital and Health Center is a 30-bed, free standing unit, the largest private burn center in the United States. Dr. Grossman also heads Grossman Burn Center at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He is a member of the Children's Burn Foundation, a non-profit organization serving the needs of indigenous burn patients that he founded with the late McLean Stevenson.

Author of more than 30 journal articles and a contributor to numerous medical textbooks, Dr. Grossman has held several teaching appointments in his career. A widely respected civic leader, Dr. Grossman has served on numerous local and statewide boards and commissions.

Scaffolding Safety in Industry Today
Presentation by Lucas Paugh, Health and Safety Engineer, Aera Energy LLC

Lucas will be addressing the following questions.

  • What responsibilities do companies/organizations have when they call out a scaffolding company?
  • How does it work when a scaffolding company puts up a scaffold, but another companies' employees will use it to conduct work?
  • I have noticed different color tags on scaffolding (e.g. green, yellow and red) - what do they mean?
  • Do workers have to tie off with fall protection when they are working on a scaffold?
  • Are inspections required? How often? What should you look for when a scaffold has been put in place?
  • What is a competent person and what is their role in scaffolding construction?
  • What is required to be a qualified/certified scaffold erector?

Lucas has a BS in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering from Montana Tech of The University of Montana located in Butte, MT. He is also currently pursuing a Masters Science Degree in Industrial Hygiene. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Valley Coastal Chapter.

Eye Injuries: What to Do and When You Do It
Presentation by David B. Hair, MD

Dr. Hair is the founder and clinical director of the Bakersfield Eye Institute. After training directly under several of the nation’s top eye surgeons, the Garces High School graduate returned to Bakersfield to establish his medical practice.

Dr. hair graduated with honors in biochemistry and was the class valedictorian at the University of Nevada, Reno. He went on to earn a medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., and then remained at Georgetown University for his ophthalmology residency at the Washington National Eye Center.

During his residency, he assisted in ocular and facial reconstruction surgeries for United States Marines who suffered devastating wartime injuries. He also served active duty and retired military service men and women at Bethesda National Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Dr. Kumor is Board Certified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He served his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and in Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. His residency was in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University, School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan.

Greg has over 35 years experience in Environmental Health & Safety and Emergency Services. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Member of the Craters of Moon Chapter of the ASSE, Authorized OSHA 510 10- & 30-Hour Instructor, Former Member of an R & D Committee of the National Safety Council (NSC), and a Former Member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).

Presentation by James Boretti, CSP; CEO/President, Boretti, Inc.

With over 23 years of experience, James has an extensive background in the field of Safety & Health. James is currently CEO / President of Boretti, Inc., an integrated safety solutions firm. He has successfully consulted with a wide range of clients and industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, television, construction and agricultural environments. His efforts have resulted in improved operational efficiency, lowered insurance rates, reduced claims frequency, and OSHA compliance.

James is a frequent speaker for clients and professional organizations. He has spoken for groups such as the American Society of Safety Engineers, Regional Environmental Business Resource & Assistance Center, Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Safety & Health Management Society, and the Society of Human Resources Management. He taught safety courses for the California Office of Risk & Insurance Management and the University of California, Irvine.

James is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Past-President of the Orange Coast (now Orange County) Chapter, a member of the Council on Professional Affairs (CoPA) and Business of Safety Committee (BoSC).

Guest Speaker: Michael Geyer

Mr. Geyer has 25-years of professional experience in environmental engineering proceeded by more than 10-years of construction work. His current practice areas include: mitigating hazards at high-risk construction / remediation sites, controlling workplace hazards, performing property condition assessments, and assessing both indoor and outdoor air quality. Mr. Geyer has two undergraduate degrees, Engineering and Geology, with additional coursework in biological sciences. He has several professional licenses, including: Professional Civil Engineer, Board-certified safety professional, Board-certified industrial hygienist, and Registered Environmental Assessor. He is also a California-licensed General Engineering Contractor with a hazardous classification. Mr. Geyer is trained in 40-hr HAZWOPR, Confined-Space Entry, OSHA Competent Person, Forklift operation, and Explosives Safety. Mr. Geyer is currently the managing principal of KERNTEC Industries, Inc., and volunteers as a Chair of the Kern County Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee.

Juli has a Bachelor's in Chemistry, is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, is certified by CALOSHA Mine & Tunneling as both a Gas Monitor and Safety & Health Representative. She has experience in the medical sector, pulp and paper, underground tunneling at the Nevada Test Site, and worked for almost fifteen years with Department of Interior in Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Land Management as an industrial hygienist, safety manager, and environmental protection specialist. Specific to Hearing Conservation, she has extensive experience in establishing realistic programs, through engineering controls and educating employees on hearing hazards and retention (i.e. hearing conservation), worker's compensation awards in Reclamation were ultimately reduced.

Battalion Chief Garth Milam is a 25 year veteran of the fire service. Chief Milam presently serves as head of the Community Services Division for the Bakersfield Fire Department. His service has included a wide range of emergency planning disciplines, including; Heavy Rescue Team Leader and Instructor, Disaster Response Planner, Disaster Exercise Design Team Coordinator and Public Information Officer for the City Fire Department.

Guest Speaker: Claudia Jonah

Claudia Jonah is Interim Health Officer for the Kern County Department of Public Health. Over her 20 years of employment with the department, she has also served as a Deputy Health Officer and the Assistant Health Officer. Dr. Jonah has had experience in multiple disease outbreaks in Kern County including the measles epidemic of 1990, multidrug resistant tuberculosis cluster of 2002 and West Nile Virus (WNV) in Kern 2004 -2007. She regularly delivers informational presentations ranging from preventive health education, teen health choices and consequences to senior health awareness.

Raised in Los Angeles, California, Jonah has resided in Bakersfield for 21 years. She has two adult daughters one a chef and the other serving in the military. Her hobbies include skiing and sewing.

Guest Speaker: Anthony J. Ciancimino

Tony Ciancimino joined the National Safety Council as Regional Manager of Safety and Health solutions in January of 2007. His current involvements are the solicitation of new members, servicing the needs of existing members and program development for the California Chapter. He also represents the Chapter with local institutions and governments. He brought with him an extensive background in sales and marketing as well as membership based association experience.

For six years prior to joining the NSC Tony worked for the Westchester/LAX-Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce (now called the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce,) as Executive Director. Tony has run his own marketing company, Creative Horizons Marketing. Previous endeavors include the sales, marketing and merchandising of textiles and man-made fibers to the apparel and home furnishing trades. He has worked for industry leaders such as Hoechst Celanese, Burlington Industries and the Crompton Company. Tony earned his BA from Gettysburg College. He and his wife and daughter live in Southern California where Tony has called home for the past 37 years.


Tony helps draw the winning numbers for the raffle.

Sandi Morris is a Community Relations Specialist with the Bakersfield Police Department and is currently assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit and marketing for the Police Activities League. A native of Bakersfield, she has been with the City for 18 years.  As a Certified Advanced Crime Prevention Specialist, her assignment now consists of educating the public on such topics as Personal Safety, Senior Safety and Elder Abuse, Violence in the Workplace, Identity Theft and fraud, Neighborhood and Business Watch, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.

Ron Jones has a MS in Kinesiology with a sub discipline in Sport Psychology from CSU, Northridge, a BA in Physical Education and English, is a certified Health/Fitness Instructor with the American College of Sports Medicine, and has an ACSM CEQ in Older Adults & Exercise.  He holds a professional clear California teaching credential and is credentialed in Physical Education, Health Science, and English. Ron has been a community college adjunct health/fitness instructor, coached cross country and track student-athletes from first grade through community college, and is a certified USA Cycling Coach.  Ron has served as an ultra-endurance cycling fitness/training consultant nationally and internationally and presented at state and national conventions on bicycle safety, bicycle/health advocacy issues, and corporate wellness.  Ron Jones is also a Licensed Corporate Wellcoach with Wellcoaches.Com.

Chris Vochoska, CSP, is a EHS Training Advisor for Aera Energy LLC in Bakersfield California. He has a BS in Industrial Technology and an MBA in Finance from the University of Houston.  He has been in the Safety, Health and Environmental field for 16 years. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and is recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Dr. Einstein has been practicing internal medicine in Bakersfield since the early 50's. He has been a professor at the University of Southern California and is presently the Medical Director, Division of Respiratory Care at San Joaquin Valley College. He has published numerous papers on fungus disease. He is a leading authority on Valley Fever who has devoted his life to find a vaccine for this very serious illness.
