Bakersfield Chapter Study Group (OHST-CHST-ASP-CSP)

Meets on the first and third Tuesday nights each month.
6:00p.m. — 7:30p.m. at MidCal Labor, 5601 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309.

This study group is comprised of safety professionals seeking certifications at all levels from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

You do not need to be a member of ASSP to join this group! Anyone can join the group at any time; this is a “go at your own pace” study group.

The only purchases required are study materials and a calculator. Most participants are using TI-30XIIS.We study from materials offered by SPAN International Training. You can purchase the work books from: www.spansafetyworkshops.com.

Bakersfield College, Occupational Safety and Risk Management

The OSRM program provides broad-based professional preparation with robust coursework that is transferrable to most four-year programs. Embracing the comprehensive nature of the safety/risk management discipline, BC offers four safety degree options to allow students to tailor their education to a particular area of interest. Degree options include OSRM Agriculture, OSRM Business, OSRM Health Science, or OSRM Industrial Technology. BC also offers an OSRM Certificate of Achievement. This isn’t safety training; it’s an education. It has never been easier to earn a degree in safety. In-person and Zoom options are available for all OSRM courses.

Rated as the fifth best community college in the country, Taft College offers both an Associate’s Degree and/or a Certificate of Achievement in Industrial Health and Safety, Taft’s programs are geared towards providing training and education in various aspects in the industries of health and safety (Oil and Gas, Energy, Construction, Manufacturing, etc). Environmental Resource Management Bachelors Degree

CSUB’s Environmental Resource Management (ERM) degree program prepares students for public and private sector careers in this area. Students must complete core requirements as well as a concentration. The innovative Hazardous Materials Management concentration is one of the first baccalaureate-level programs in California to articulate with accredited environmental technology programs offered by community colleges throughout California and other western states. The community college programs provide the hands-on skills required for environmental and safety compliance, emergency planning and response, and site remediation.

California State University-Northridge offers:

  • Bachelor Degree Environmental Health

A program that focuses on the application of environmental sciences, public health, the biomedical sciences, and environmental toxicology to the study of environmental factors affecting human health and related ecological issues, and prepares individuals to function as professional environmental health specialists. Includes instruction in epidemiology, biostatistics, toxicology, public policy analysis, public management, risk assessment, communications, environmental law and applications such as air quality, food protection, radiation protection, solid and hazardous waste management, water quality, noise abatement, housing quality, and environmental control of recreational areas.

SSI provides Crane operator training (preparing for the CCO certification), Crane operations site supervisor training, Crane safety basic awareness, and rigging training. We have a small hydro, large hydro and a lattice boom set up for training and testing all the time.
